Characterization of neps in spinning processes

Nep level in the yarn is an important quality specification laid down for both domestic and overseas markets. High levels of neps in the yarn lead to poor yarn and fabric appearance. The invention of the AFIS machine provides quick and objective measurements of these levels in the cotton raw material. Attempts have been made to study the nep quantity and size distribution at raw material and ginned state, also to establish a relationship between nep level in the feed material and the yarn. This paper studies the nep profile from raw material to yarn stage and also the effect of some important spinning parameters in reducing nep size which is particularly critical for fine and combed counts.
