Cots provide uniform pressure on the fibre strand for efficient drafting and aprons help to control floating fibres. In the case of cots, factors that influence yarn quality are shore hardness and in the case of aprons, it is the softness of the outer layer. Factors influencing the useful life of both are outlined. Achievable levels of yarn quality while different types of cots and aprons are given.
