Recent improvements in short staple spinning technology are presented. Condensation spinning machines produce yarns which are more compact and stronger than ring spun yarns. They can be produced with fewer fibres or less twists and are less hairy, producing a cleaner product. It is predicted that condensation spinning will soon absorb most of the ring spinning market. The potential of older Autocoro open-end spinning machines can be increased by replacing the spinning box with the new Corobox SE 11. Thus there is no need to purchase a new machine. The Murata 851 MVS vortex spinning machine was presented at ITMA and tests are underway around the world to see if it really can spin pure cotton at twice the speed of the latest O-E spinning frames.
