The author explores the future of yarn preparation, looking at possible development in processing stages and also questioning the need for some types of process. Opening and cleaning, cording, combing and drawing are examined in turn. Finally, the possible elimination of the roving frame is suggested. Machines will become generally smarter and more integrated thanks to the availability and reducing cost of microprocessors, imaging systems and drivers.
