The focus of this article is the need to develop future testing techniques which are based on the actual needs of users. Harmonization of testing techniques, with internationally accepted index figures, is stressed. Modern testing procedures should reliably analyze the raw material independent of the vested interests of the participants in the cotton industry, but they should also be affordable and appropriate.
