An experiment to reduce yarn hairiness by replacing the air jet nozzle of a conventional spinning machine with an air suction nozzle examined the effects of nozzles with different hole angles and arrangements on yarn hairiness and quality. Spinning with an air suction nozzle reduced the number of hairs measuring at least 3 millimeters long by more than 50 percent. The air suction nozzle also improved yarn strength and elongation without sacrificing yarn evenness. 15 refs.
