Diamond coating improves the properties of open end spinning machine rotors and the wear resistance of opening rolls. Currentless immersion coating applies a nickel base. parameters for wear resistance of the diamond coat include appropriate pretreatment of the rotor plate, diamond grain size, maximum possible intercalation of diamond grains in the nickel base material, uniform intercalation, smooth surface (especially at the fiber slip area), and a maximum hardening period for the nickel base. A deposit of trash particles in the groove or unsuitable cleaning tools can wear the diamond coating unevenly over the circumference of the rotor groove. Since January 2000, the Suessen Research and Development Centre has conducted laboratory and mill trials of rotors manufactured by four leading companies.
