The spinning of linen in blends with other fibres, especially wool, can cause problems which are difficult to solve, even using modern material processing procedures and techniques. Since there is an increasing demand for linen in blends with other materials, this article discusses the problems that are likely to arise and ways of solving them. During spinning, better alignment of the two blend components and an improved homogeniety can be achieved by the correct selection and use of fibre finishes, spinning mechanisms and spinning technology and by careful harmonisation of the spinning parameters. The result should be improved yarn uniformity and cleanness.
