Rotor spinning, air jet spinning, friction spinning, compact spinning, and composite spinning offer higher production rates than conventional ring spinning while eliminating some processing stages, reducing labor and space requirements, and simplifying automation. Rotor spinning machines with 2,888 spinning positions spin yarns at take up rates of 220 meters per minute. India has approximately 3.2 lakh installed rotors. Air jet yarn spinning machines in India total approximately 60 units and spin mainly polyester/viscose and polyester/cotton yarns. The new Murata MVS vortex spinning machine spins 100 percent cotton yarns in counts of 10-50 Ne at speeds of up to 400 meters per minute. DREF friction spinning machines spin filament core, 100 percent cotton, and cotton core yarns. Rieter, Suessen, Zinser, and MAL manufacture compact spinning machines that manufacture yarns 15-20 percent stronger than conventional ring spun yarns, with elongation and abrasion resistance properties that are 20-25 percent better and hairiness that is 50 percent lower.
