The ATME-I 2000 exhibition in Greenville, South Carolina, offered few significant developments in technology. A number of major manufacturers did not attend or presented down sized exhibits. Notable presentations included compact spinning machines, which use a rotating screening drum to collect fibers, and air jet (vortex) spinning machines. Air jet spinning machines performed at speeds of up to 400 meters per second when processing cotton, manmade fibers, and their blends.
