Combed cotton and blended yarn manufacturer Ilshin Spinning Company Limited of South Korea operates 196,000 spindles and manufactures 41,000 tons of yarn annually. The company has a yarn and knit fabric dyeing capacity of 35,000 kilograms per day. Company sales in 1999 were $230 million and net income after taxes was $30 million. The company's debt to equity ratio is 42 percent, lower than the South Korean industry average of 215 percent. Its income to sales ratio is 20 percent, higher than the manufacturing industry average of 1.7 percent. It accounts for 8.9 percent of the country's spindles and 10.8 percent of the country's production. Changes in the United States Caribbean Basin Initiative could adversely affect South Korean yarn sales to that region. Localized production and strategic alliances could minimize the effect.
