Researchers applied a variance tolerancing and decomposition method from Part I to fiber and Yarn test data obtained over a three year period from a spinning mill. The method decomposed the variabilities of single end strengths occurring in six different ring spun and open end yarns into random and process induced variance components by tolerancing the variances of the matching fiber length and tensile properties. Single end yarn strength and single fiber tensile tests estimated required parameters and confirmed that variance tolerancing through effective gage length and other intrinsic components was an effective tool for variance estimation and decomposition. Process induced variances accounted for 69-82 percent of total yarn strength variations. 8 refs.
