End breaks at the bobbin affect ring spinning machine productivity more than end breaks at the ring spinning frame because end breaks at the bobbin top the entire machine. Manual piecing of two ends at the bobbin increases the probabiility of end breaks at the ring spinning frame, increases yarn imperfections, and reduces yarn uniformity. Controlling end breaks at the bobbin requires controlling breakages during carding, drawing, and combing. Causes of end breaks in the creel zone include unpieced ends from the drawing machine; over-parallelized loose sliver; excessively filled cans; high tension draft in the creel: improper positioning of sliver cans; and insufficient maintenance of cans, springs, tops, guides, and support tables. Causes for end breaks in the drafting, twisting, and building zones are also discussed.
