Trugtzschler GmbH & Company KG's Sliver Focus online sliver monitoring system features novel sensor technology designed for high speed drawing machines. The system features a high precision spring loaded scanner with low mass inertia and high resolution graphics. It measures sliver at speeds of up tp 1,000 meters per minute. A noncontact frictionless industive distance sensor converts the displacement of the measuring lever due to sliver mass deviations to electrical signals. The graphic interface displays sliver count, sliver count deviations, coefficient of variance, variance curves, and mass deviation spectrograms. Mill trials using Sliver Focus identified thick places with mass increases larger than 15 percent and length defects greater than 20 millimeters.
