William Tatham's automatic doffing system for Westwood Yarns uses three synchronized drives to transfer bobbins to new spools and deliver compact, high density packages to the front of the creel for unloading. The first drive moves empty condenser bobbins into contact with the drive drum and into the build position. The second drive moves full condenser bobbins away from the drive drum for manual removal from the creel. The third drive advances and retracts the cradle bars during doffing. A system for transferring bobbins to the spinning machine accommodates bobbins weighing up to 17 kilograms and improves worker safety.
