The Rotec method of continuous drafting uses rolls with teeth in both directions that operate at different speeds. The forward facing teeth on a faster roll and the backward facing teeth on a slower roll comb through the fibrous material at a 65 degrees angle to the common tangent. A maintains contact with the fibers throughout the drawing process. Whereas conventional sliver to spun yarn processes require gilling, combing, and several stages of roving and drawing prior to spinning. Diagrams illustrate a nine roll Rotec opening machine and a larger conventional worsted carding machine.
