Mechanical properties of wool/polyester/acrylic blended yarn

Attempts have been made by researchers to develop yarns with predetermined properties. Nevertheless, because of the complex factor involved and lack of information, it is still not possible to predict the properties of the blended yarns with great accuracy from those of the fibers. In order to furnish more information regarding the properties of blended yarn an experimental investigation is undertaken. A series of yarns containing various proportions of wool, polyester and acrylic fibers have been prepared by a semi-worsted spinning system. The stress-strain curves have been obtained for the yarns. The results are explained in terms of the current literatures. Prediction of the rupture strength of three components blended yarn using the rule of mixture is not in strong agreement with the experimental results. The strength deficiency of the three components blended yarn is partly due to the differential response of the components to twist.
