COM4 yarns are stronger, have fewer neps, and are less hairy than conventional ring spun yarns. Rieter's ComforSpin compact yarn spinning machine manufactures COM4 yarns that reduce size consumption by 50 percent and raw materials consumption by 8-16 percent. Using COM4 yarns permits increases in weft insertion speed and reductions in loom maintenance. The K 44 ComforSpin machine is more user friendly than the K 40 unit and operates at increased spindle speeds with reduced yarn breakage. The machine requires less cleaning, and the tp roll requires less grinding than does the K 40 unit. Resultant yarns have fewer defects and improved uniformity. Improvement in the suction and air components for the cleaning system extend cleaning cycles to 40-60 days.
