Influence of Twist on Properties of Flat Yarn.

A study of the influence of twisting on the properties of flat polyester yarns used a TFO twisting machine to twist different varieties of flat polyester filament yarns. Increasing twist increased yarn denier. The number of filaments did not affect the rat of increase in denier. Increasing twist increased yarn contraction. Yarn tenacity increased up to critical twist levels of approximately 1,600 twists per meter and decreased beyond that point. Yarns with lower number of filaments had higher percentage increases in tenacity as a result of twisting. Elongation was optimal at 1,200 twists per meter for most yarn varieties.
