Research developing short staple yarn spinning machines with shorter processing lines will analyze the motion dynamics of fiber clumps and particle in an air flow field and develop a single step carding and spinning process that incorporates multiple spinning heads in the carding machines. Researchers analyzed web uniformity monitoring, measurement, regulation, and division and the feeding of web ribbons into yarn spinning heads at the front end of the carding machine. A prototype systems with modified opening and carding machines manufactured coarse yarns. If fiber alignment and sliver regularity can be achieved via carding machine modifications, spinning directly from the carded web will become practical. 14 refs.
