Compact spinning technology reduces the spinning triangle, embeds more short fibers within the spinning triangle, improves raw material utilization, reduces fly formation, improves yarn stability, and reduces yarn hairiness. Tests evaluated conventionally and compact spun yarns from gently and conventionally carded cottons and from cottons containing 10, 15, and 20 percent combing noils. Gentle carding reduced short fiber length by 2 percent for lower staple length cottons. Compact spun yarns were stronger and had better Uster coefficient of variation values than did combed conventional ring spun yarns.
