Two innovations in short staple yarn spinning technology provide high quality yarn at high speeds. The Murata vortex air jet spinning machine (MVS) spins carded cotton at 350 meters per minute while imparting real twist. Air combing removes a high percentage of waste in the spinning zone, reducing the waste level to 4-10 percent at spinning. MAL, Zinser, Suessen, and Rieter offer compact spinning machines that minimize the spinning triangle and improve the twisting process in ring spinning. Compact spinning, greater elongation, less hairiness, and less fiber loss to fly lint and spinning waste than do conventional ring spinning machines.
