Murata's vortex spinning (MVS) machine accommodates a wider variety of yarns than do open end spinning machines and manufactures yarns at rate 20 times that of ring spinning machines and three times that of open end spinning machines. The MVS machine uses a drafting roll to draft sliver to a desired yarn count. A nozzle sucks in the drafted fibers, and a high speed vortex air current separates the fibers and wraps the fibers around a hollow spindle. Twist is imparted to the fibers as they are dragged into the spindle. The MVS machine manufactures yarns at speeds of 300-400 meters per minute. MVS spun yarns have a twist structure similar to that of ring spun yarns, resulting in a fabric hand and appearance similar to those of ring spun yarns.
