The IDEA COM4 wool compact spinning machine was developed by cognetex SPA (part of the Finlane group) in cooperation with Rieter, a specialist in cotton compact spinning machines. The COM4 Wool is a composite system for spinning long staple fibres, whereby the parallelisation and aerodynamic condensing processes reduce the spinning triangle that is normally formed on conventional ring spinning machines. Compact yams are clense and smooth, and have a higher strength than conventional ring-spun yams, since all the fibres are bound in by twist. On the COM4 Wool system, the drafting rollers have been replaced by a drum, which enables the air flow to condense the fibres directly in the drafting unit. The yam properties can be further improved by using controlled balloon spindles.
