Demands on dentists’ overalls: Between protection and comfort (German) (Zwischen Schutzwirkung und Tragekomfort)

The demands relating to hygiene clothing are reviewed, the garments in question being overalls worn by dentists. The garments have to reduce the risk of infection by providing better resistance to bacteria whilst making the wearer feel comfortable at the same time. Whilst a close fit is seen as a positive factor, fabric stiffness, hardness and excessive heat during wear are shown up as negative influences. Cotton and cotton/polyester blends result in the highest comfort levels but provide insufficient protection against infection unless given a special finish and monitored constantly.
