Process capability indexes measure the accuracy and precision of output of such continuous textile processes as carding, drawing, and ring spinning, as well as facilitate the evaluation of the quality of textiles during their manufacture. These indexes determine whether the product being manufactured falls within statistically acceptable limits of quality specifications. The precision index, which is defined as the ratio of the difference between upper and lower specification limits to six times the standard deviation, measure positive and negative variations from target specifications. The accuracy index measures clustering of deviations around the mean to determine trends away from the target specifications. When both indexes equal 1, 99.7 percent of the product meets specifications. A value of 1.33 for both index indicates that only 0.003 percent of the product fails to meet specifications.
