Research has indicated that variations in the cross sectional packing density of ring, rotor, and air jet blended yarns influence yarn properties. Blending of dissimilar fibers may not lead to their uniform distribution through a cross section, and particular fiber components may congregate either toward the core or the surface of the yarn. The packing density of air jet spun yarns is the highest, followed by the packing density of ring spun and rotor spun yarns, respectively. Yarn tenacity is highest for ring spun yarns. Breaking elongation, however, is highest for air jet spun yarn. Fiber arrangement in the cross section of rotor spun blended yarns was the most homogeneous.
