An experiment texamined the frequency of thread breakage in an automatic silk reeling machine. Researchers used a statisticla queueing model to obtain a mathematicla distribution of the break frequency over time. The model expressed machine downtime as the sum to two independent variables associated with the exponential distribution of two silk fiber parameters, tensile strength and breaking elongation. 5 refs.
