An Investigation studied the tensile fatigue behavior of warp yarns as they were cyclically elongated and subjected to abrasion. A Sulzer Rueti Webtester simulated typical stresses that yarns undergo during weaving. Samples were 20 tex 50/50 cotton/polyester ring and open end spun yarns. Evaluations depended on three criteria: failure, damage rate, and visual appearance. The final data exhibited an unusually scattered unimodal pattern when fitted to a three-parameter Weibull distribution. Results indicated that the damage rate, expressed by various tensile property factors, could successfully predict yarn failure. These factors included base tension, speed of fatiguing, abrasion pin position, and strain amplitude. 35 refs.
