Thread properties required for good sewing and seam performance include high tensile strength with moderate to low elongation, low stretch relaxation of the thread after sewing, optimal fibre finish to assure lubricity and evaporation, stability at high temperatures, and high resistance to abrasion. Ways of maximizing these properties are discussed, with particular attention to high-temperature applications.
