A review of trends in idnustrial sewing thread production considers the properties of twisted multifilament, bonded monocord, interlinked multifilament, entangled multifilament, and single strand threads. Some manufacturers use a bonding agent to hold the threads together and to improve the abrasion resistance of the twisted multifilaments. bonded monocord is a low cost multifilament thread that offers improved sewability, higher abrasion resistance, and less wear on sewing machine parts. Entangled multifilament threads are joined internally through the use of a polymer with a lwo melting temperature. The advantages of these threads include reduced lubricant requirements and suppleness. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is the referred fiber for single strand threads because of its durability, chemical resistance, and rot and mildew resistance.
