High speed machinery and the demand for greater efficiency during downstream processing increases the need for higher quality yarns. High speed weaving makes yarn sizing alone insufficient to ensure higher productivity and increases the need for more elastic yarns. Consumers of knitwear are demanding softer hand, which demands an increase in the use of yarns with more even hairiness. The goal of zero defect printing can only be achieved by reducing the number of weak places, impurities, and foreign fibers in knitting yarns. These combined demands have led to improvements in rotor spinning, ring spinning, and carding technologies. Some spinning mills have taken advantage of their vertical organizations to optimize processing conditions and to produce customized yarns for niche markets.
