A review of ongoing research projects at SITRA includes descriptons of a conditioning formulation for cotton yarns after spinning to improve whiteness; a study on the effects of spindle speed on yarn quality and the importance of controlling hairiness; an analysis of neps in blended polyester/viscose and polyester/cotton yarns to determine which component is responsible for what percentage of neps; an energy study with 18.7 millimeter spindles; an evaluation of new spinning techniques, including a multiple rove feed system and a device for the application of lubricant on just/cotton yarns to decrease fiber shedding; a cost analysis of spinning mills; and an evaluation of high volume instrument cotton testing.
