Enka tecnica's Fraytec Ⅱ provides online monitoring and control of filament breaks on spinning and twisting machines. Filament breaks have become increasingly frequent because of the significant increases in conventional takeup speeds. Speeds of up to 8,000 meters per minute are possible with high oriented yarns, which exposes the yarn to high stress. The Fraytec Ⅱ consists of three major components: the measuring head, the evaluation board, and the measuring head cable. The arrangement and number of components vary depending on the application. Fewer components and a simpler arrangement are satisfactory for a laboratory unit. A full scale unit uses up to 16 measuring heads, which are linked with such peripherals as programmable logic controls or PCs. The sensor consists of a very precise light barrier through which the sample passes and detects and counts the number of broken filaments.
