Yarn Production on the Rise

World yarn production rose by 4.4 percent in the closing quarter of 1994. Countries experiencing significant growth include Brazil (31.5 percent), Egypt (28.7 percent) and Taiwan (10.5 percent). In contrast, European production increased by 3.4 percent. Japan's output decreased significantly, by 14 percent. Global yarn stocks increased 3.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 1994, though this is still aproximately 7 percent lower than a year ago, and continues to follow a decreasing trend that began two years ago. Fabric production, while increasing a healthy 10 percent in Europe, experienced a decrease of nearly 8 percent in Asia. Fabric output in the United States has been extremely stable over the last three years. Global fabric inventories grew by 2.5 percent in the last quarter of 1994, with the United States and Asia displaying the most robust gains (5.5 and 3.6 percent, respectively).
