In partnership with Du Pont. Linear Composites and Curtins Consulting Engineers have developed modular compression engineering, an innovative civil engineering technique wherein cables of Kevlar fiber are used to connect such building materials as concrete, brick blocks, wood, or composite panels into basic building modules. The cables, made from high tenacity, creep resistnat, and noncorrosive Kevlar para-aramid fibers, maintain permanent compression of horizontal or inclined planar structures. The prestressing cables are locked into solid termination pieces and anchored in end peces. The modules can be prefabricated, easily transported, and rapidly assembled on site. The creators constent that modular compression engineering will generate new design possibilities for durable structures and permit the architectural use of innovative materials.
