A recent survey on the manufacture of manmade yarns in India revealed that polyester blended yarns suffered a degree of imperfection far higher than that in mills outside India. Warp streakiness, weft bars, and weftwise defects frequently contribute to fabric defects and higher value loss. Researchers investigating methods to reduce imperfections in polyester blend yarns and to identify the causes behind their high incidence rate of Class A Classimat faults analyzed card waste percentage at different carding production rates, the influence of carding production rate on yarn quality, and improvements in yarn properties from crystal wire. Data suggested that a reduction in doffing speed lowers imperfections in polyester/cotton blend yarns; that crystal wire with zero land for cylinder and doffer reduces the number of perfections in relation to normal wire, and that cotton percentage is higher by approximately 5 percent in the Class A fault region. 14 refs.
