Researchers developed a technique for separating the individual filaments of continuous filament yarns. Researchers treated the yarns with a small amount of Permalose TM antistatic agent and induced electrostatic charges onto the individual filaments. The separated filaments intermingled with a drafted ribbon of fibers at the front roller nip of a ring spinning frame to produce 20 tex 70/30 cotton/polyester filament blended composite yarns. The research compared the physical properties of the composite yarns with those of 100 percent cotton ring spun yarns and the equivalent core spun yarns. Researchers varied twist, fiber length, and the roving feeding arrangement to observe their influences on the yarn properties. Experimental results will be discussed in part two of this series of articles. numerous refs.
