To clarify processing principles of interlaced yarn, researchers examined the effect of air pressure, yarn speed, and feed ratio on yarn tension during processing and the number of resulting tangles. Rather than use a conventional interlacing machine, researchers produced tangling and opening parts in a yarn by aiming an air jet on yarns attached to a flat truck. Results demonstrated that yarns subjected to the air jet are similar to interlaced yarns produced on conventional interlacers. The role of interlacers is to control cyclic production of tangling and opening. The single blowing method, however, produces interlaced yarns at air pressures of between 1.5 and 7.5 kilograms per cubic square meter. Truck speed produced minimal effect on the number of tangles careated. 3 refs.
