Rabbit hair is a specialty hair protein fiber than features warmth, soft hand, and luster but lacks good interfiber cohesion, which results in poor spinnability. Acrylic fibers have been blended with rabbit hair to improve the quality of rabbit hair yarns. Researchers blended rabbit hair and acrylic fibers in ratios of 2575, 50/50, and 75/25 to test various properties of rabbit hair/acrylic blend yarns. Yarn counts increased as the percentage of acrylic fibers in the blends increased. The maximum yarn strength occurred in the 25/75 rabbit hair/acrylic blend. The 50/50 blend resulted in minimum elongation. Fabrics were prepared from each of the blended yarns and from pure rabbit hair and pure acrylic yarns. Comparisons showed that pure rabbit hair offered the greatest fabric thickness and the lightest fabric weight. Fabric weight and bending strength increased as greater amounts of acrylic were added to the blend ratiov. Stiffness increased slightly with higher acrylic content in the blend. Crease recovery decreased slightly when more acrylic was added to the blend.
