Researchers examined nine samples of wool and polyester fibers blended in three different percentage compositions and spun into three different linear densities to determine how blend ratio and yarn linear density influenced yarn properties. Although Uster percentage and the total number of imperfections decreased with an increase in yarn coarseness, no specific trends emerged with variations in blend components and linear density. An increase in polyester content led to increases in tenacity and breaking load. Breaking elongation of single yarns exhibited no correlation with linear density or variation in blend composition. For the same blend compositions, count strength product value increased slightly in finer yarns. The doubling of single yarns led to a slight improvement in strength and elongation coefficient of variation percentage. 5 refs.
