Influence of ply-twisting on the modification of surface characteristics of yarns

Ply-twisting, is an operation that changes and improves existing yarns by combining them together, and does not have the same influence on yarns of different structures. Taking into account the fact that this operation may also influence the characteristics of aesthetics and comfort of textile surfaces made of plied yarns, an attempt is made to assess the change in hairiness and attrition during self-abrasion of yarn caused by ply-twisting of ring-spun and rotor-spun viscose and cotton yarns. The results obtained confirmed the influence of the plying operation on the decrease in both yarns' hairiness and yarn mass change during self-abrasion.
