A coarse count yarn break detector has been developed by Dent Instrumentation of Colne, UK. The device uses optoelectronic contactless sensing and can be used for carpet yarns, tyre cords, glass fibres and, any heavy yarns being spun. Because less sensitivity is called for than with fine counts, the company says that it was possible to create a more economical unit without any loss of performance. The totally enclosed unit is able to operate in any environment without danger of contamination and without maintenance.
