NITRA has developed a method to produce terry towels, using a non-conventional manufacturing process, to improve its functional properties. In order to have a better towelling effect the area of fibre surface in each loop should be mximum, therefore the yarn should have minimum twist to achieve better quality, but sufficient strength for weaving. NITRA has developed a bicomponent yarn comprising a cotton fibre and a water soluble synthetic fibre. The fabric is produced from the yarn and then the soluble part of the yarn is dissolved and removed facilitating reduced twist levels.
