The fibre distribution over the cross section of spun yarns consisting of a blend of wool, polyester, acrylic and viscose rayon fibres, where the wool and acrylic fibres have a constant length but the length of the polyester and viscose rayon is varied, is investigated. It is shown that fibre migration is determined by the length and diameter of the fibres: long, fine fibres tend to migrate towards the centre of the yarn, whereas short and coarse fibres migrate towards the outside. The effect on fabric properties is noted.
