The hairiness of nylon and polyester microfibre yarns produced by ring and open-end spinning is compared. Results show that the rotor-spun microfibre yarns are less hairy than ring-spun microfibre yarns and decreases with the linear density of the microfibres. An increase in twist reduces the hairiness of ring-spun microfibre yarns, but has an insignificant effect in the case of rotor-spun yarns. The use of microfibres enables rotor-spun yarns finer than 18 tex and with a reduced twist factor(α=90) to be produced.
