Hoechst AG of Germnay has developed a technique for creating smooth and cohesive, fluff-free, high modulus multifilament yarns. The process involves intermingling yarns at a temperature of (0.25-0.9) Tm where Tm is the melting point or decomposition temperature of the high modulus monofilament in ℃. The average entanglement spacing of the multifilament yarn should be less than 150mm, as measured in the pin count test. Also there should not be more than 20 broken monofilament ends per metre when measured by the light barrier method on one side of the yarn.
