Loading on self-twisted yarns

The effects of different loadings on the self-twisting roller on the physical properties of self-twisted yarn were examined. The parameters measured included yarn lea strength, hairiness, evenness, strand twist, ply tiwst, diameter and abrasion resistance. The study led to the recommendation that a loading of about 300g should be applied to the self-twisting rollers when spinning yarn of 100％ wool fibres.
