A process for preparing chopped fibre strands consists of : wetting a continuous, unsized fibre two with a liquid consisting of a volatile sizing agent; chopping the two while it is still wet into predetermined lengths; and exposing the chopped fibres to conditions of temperature and pressure to remove the sizing agent by volatilization. Chopped fibre strands are produced, which are held together in a compact manner and which can be easily dispersed in air or another medium into individual fine fibres or small groups of individual filaments.
