The apparatus claimed comprises a rotor carrying parallel blades on which the fibre is wound. As well as being rotated, the rotor is reciprocated axially to discharge the cut fibre in cooperation with further rotors which rotate with first rotor, but do not reciprocate. Cut fibres from behind the blendes are ejected into a discharge space. There are also guide plates between which the wound fibre is supplied and which hold the fibres against longitudinal movement with the rotor. A device such as a roller or as a belt presses the would fibre against the blades to assist cutting. IPC D01G.
